Your Guide to Auckland’s Best Bars Part Two
Auckland’s nightlife is full of personality — from hidden gems and intimate wine bars to high‑energy dance floors and late‑night institutions. In Part One, we highlighted cosy, music‑driven bars perfect for relaxed evenings. In Part Two, we turn up the volume and take you through some of Auckland’s most iconic, high‑energy bars for when you want a proper night out with friends, your partner or the whole crew.
Cassette Nine
Cassette Nine is one of Auckland’s most recognisable nightlife spots, famous for its teapot cocktails, quirky décor and late‑night energy. Open until 4am, this bar delivers a true city‑night‑out experience. Located up a flight of stairs, the U‑shaped layout includes a balcony, booth seating and a lively dance floor. With top‑tier DJs, local gigs and a huge drinks list, it is no surprise Cassette Nine remains one of the CBD’s most frequented bars.
Grand Central
A Ponsonby icon, Grand Central is known for its laid‑back vibe, hospo‑friendly crowd and unpretentious atmosphere. This is the place to let loose, dance to live music or DJs and enjoy a carefree night out. Open late into the early hours, it is especially popular with younger crowds. With late‑night curry and burger spots just across the road, you have everything you need for a full night out in one place.
Impala
One of the newer additions to Auckland’s nightlife scene, Impala has quickly become a CBD favourite. Known for hosting well‑known and up‑and‑coming DJs, the club delivers creative sets you won’t find anywhere else in the city. Expect Fireball shots, a packed dance floor and a 3am kebab calling your name on the way home. Impala brings underground club culture to the mainstream in the best possible way.
Longroom
Longroom is another Ponsonby institution and a go‑to for those wanting a more mature night out. With DJs playing Thursday through Saturday and a Restricted 22 policy after a certain time, it attracts an older, stylish crowd. The interior features a long “fire” deck, comfortable couches and one of Ponsonby’s most popular dance floors. It is often packed on weekends, so make it your first stop before the queues build.
