Worth the Walk: Five Great Walks in Auckland

As the weather warms up and summer arrives, Auckland becomes one of the best cities in New Zealand to explore on foot. From historic parks to coastal boardwalks and hidden west coast gems, the region offers a huge variety of walking tracks for every pace and interest. Here are five great Auckland walks worth adding to your itinerary this season.

Cornwall Park

Cornwall Park is only a short distance from Epsom Motel, making it one of the easiest and most rewarding walks to enjoy. During spring and summer, the cherry blossoms and lush greenery make the park feel like a postcard. Wander through open fields, tree lined avenues and volcanic landscapes, or walk up to One Tree Hill for panoramic views across the city.

Hobson Bay Walkway

If you are short on time, the Hobson Bay Walkway is a perfect quick escape. This short but scenic walk takes you past boats, boardwalks, birdlife and historic villas, with views of Rangitoto, North Head and Mount Victoria. The walkway is only accessible at low tide, so check the tide times before you go.

Coast to Coast Walkway

The Coast to Coast Walkway is one of Auckland’s most iconic routes. It is one of the few places in the world where you can walk from one coastline to the other in a single day. The track takes you through inner city suburbs, volcanic cones, historic sites and green parks, finishing at the Manukau Harbour. One Tree Hill, located near the motel, is one of the key points along the route.

White’s Beach Day Walk

Auckland’s west coast is famous for its dramatic scenery, and White’s Beach is one of its hidden treasures. The walk begins down a private driveway, so be respectful, then follows a marked track toward the coastline. The path leads to sand dunes, rugged views and a quiet beach that feels far removed from the city. It is an ideal short adventure for those wanting a taste of the west coast without a long hike.

Narrow Neck Beach

Devonport is a charming seaside village known for its cafes, boutiques and historic sites, and Narrow Neck Beach is one of its highlights. The beach offers beautiful views of Rangitoto and the city skyline, making it perfect for a slow, romantic stroll or a relaxed morning walk. Pair it with an ice cream or a wander through the village for a full day out.
